Homer is a 1928 graduate of RFHS. He earned 8 varsity letters in the sports of football, basketball, and track. As a multiple All-Conference selection Homer was also named to the All-State football team in 1927.

Upon graduation Homer attended Carthage College in Wisconsin. There he earned 12 varsity letters in the same three sports. He was a 3-Time All-Conference selection in football and a 2-Time All-Conference pick in basketball.

Homer then went into coaching and teaching after graduation from Carthage, spending the next 40 years at the Illinois High Schools of Paxton, Ottawa, Zion and Waukegan.
